From joy I came, for joy I live, in sacred joy I melt.
Ocean of mind, I drink all creation’s waves.
Four veils of solid, liquid, vapour, light,
Life aright.
I, in everything, enter the Great Myself.
— Paramahamsa Yogananda

3 things I wish everyone knew about Yoga:

  1. Yoga is not flowy, performative shapes synchronised to beats-y music in an expensive studio — these physical postures are called asana, which are important, but certainly not the whole picture. Yoga is a quiet, contemplative tradition, and should be made accessible to everyone.

  2. Yoga is a holistic system including philosophy, meditation, pranayam (breath and energy work), moral and ethical principles, and physical postures. In short, Yoga is an intentional and spiritual way of living.

  3. Yoga is a discipline which comes and goes, but can stay beside you your whole life once you embrace it. There is no such thing as perfection, and we know that suffering is a real part of life. The beauty of Yoga is that it acknowledges all of this, meaning it is a practice for anyone. It provides a framework whereby we learn to cope, adapt, and connect with ourselves.

Yoga offers the opportunity to become acquainted with boundaries beyond the body and mind. I aim to cultivate a teaching style that remains authentic to both myself and the ancient lineage of Indian and South Asian masters who have handed down this practice. This means honouring the practice as a whole, though we often encounter it as asana alone. Working to decolonise my practice and uphold yoga’s roots invites philosophical reflection and accountability that only enriches my relationship to Self, to jnana (Knowledge), and to the practice.
I do not profess to be an expert, but I do teach from the open-heartedness my relationship with Yoga provides. I have seen and experienced it as deeply impactful, gracious and medicinal. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to teach at some phenomenal spaces in both NSW and Victoria, Australia.

My classes are a safe place for any/all folks. Yoga should be accessible to everyone. If you have concerns or financial constraints, please contact me.
